PERINATAL MOOD AND ANXIETY DISORDERS

Do any of these statements resonate with you?

I'm so tired, I can't do this.

What am I doing wrong with this baby/child?

I feel like I'm messing up/not a good enough parent.

I miss my old life.

I have no time to take care of myself.

I don't feel like myself.

Why am I not enjoying the time with my baby/child?

Parenthood can be both magical and also equally challenging, overwhelming, isolating, and exhausting. While most parents experience some mood changes/fluctuations including "baby blues", nearly 15-20% of women/birthing individuals experience more severe postpartum anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges (Postpartum Support International). People with Postpartum Depression might feel down most days, feel weepy frequently, experience changes in eating patterns (over-eating or under-eating), changes in sleep (sleeping a lot or insomnia), feel like they have let others down/are a failure (especially in regards to parenthood), find it difficult to find joy in things they used to enjoy (difficult to enjoy time with baby), and even have thoughts of wanting to harm themselves.

For individuals struggling with baby blues and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), many new parents feel so alone in their experience and often suffer in silence, smiling through their pain. If this is you, the truth is that you are not alone and that help is available. You are a part of a magical and incredibly strong community of women, parents, and birthing individuals who are all navigating the incredibly challenging journey of raising little ones.

I am trained in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders from Postpartum Support International (PSI) and feel passionately about helping new parents navigate the challenges of parenthood, grieve their old lives of independence, find community and support, and start to feel joy and enjoy their lives again.

If any of this resonates with you (whether you have a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders or just feel overwhelmed with the demands of parenthood), do not hesitate to reach out for help. You do not have to suffer alone.
